About
Us
Mission
Students for a New American Politics (SNAP) PAC is a student-run, federally-registered political action committee. Our mission is to elect today's progressive candidates while training tomorrow's progressive leaders.
We hire and train college students, recent graduates, and college-age youth to serve as SNAP Fellows, full-time field organizers for outstanding Congressional candidates.
Because we believe in the importance of building a strong and diverse progressive movement, we pay all SNAP Fellows an individualized stipend based on their financial need. The average stipend for 2010 SNAP Fellows was $1,835 plus free housing. Read more about our fellowship program.
Strategy and History
SNAP PAC was founded in 2005 by a group of progressive student activists. We made our first endorsements in the 2006 election cycle. Since then, SNAP has raised over $150,000, hired 54 Fellows, and endorsed progressive candidates in 34 races.
SNAP is a youth-led, youth-serving organization operated exclusively by student volunteers. Because we have no paid staff, SNAP is able to spend an average of 87% to 88% of our receipts directly on putting student organizers on the ground. Contribute to SNAP's fellowship programs now.
Principles
SNAP invests our resources in the most outstanding Congressional candidates of each cycle - candidates who are running highly competitive races, and share our progressive values. Our endorsements are non-partisan, and based on candidates' record on issues such as economic and tax policy, energy and the environment, choice, LGBTQ rights, and workers' right to organize. Read our statement of principles here.
